Video: A Joan Miró-inspired Animation of Federico García-Lorca’s “Romance Sonámbulo”

Beautiful poem. I was skeptical of the animation’s relevance at first, but it came together for me.

Winner of a dozen international awards in 2016, “Sonámbulo/ The Sleepwalker” is a fantastic dream journey through colors and shapes inspired by the poem Romance Sonámbulo by Federico García-Lorca. The film is directed by Theodore Usher and features music by Kottarashky. Usher says that he was also inspired by the paintings of Lorca’s contemporary, the Spanish painter Joan Miró.

Green wind. Green branches.
The ship out on the sea
and the horse on the mountain.
With the shade around her waist
she dreams on her balcony,
